Armoloy UK Secures REACH Authorisation

Armoloy (UK) Ltd has been granted formal UK REACH Authorisation (UKREACH/25/04/00) for the continued use of chromium trioxide in the application of our Armoloy TDC (Thin Dense Chrome) coating process. This 12-year authorisation was granted by the Secretary of State and places Armoloy UK among a very small number of surface treatment companies legally permitted to operate Functional Engineered Chrome Plating in the UK.

Our competitors may not be authorised.

We are.

For customers and procurement teams, that distinction is now fundamental to supply chain compliance across the UK, Europe, and worldwide.

Your Supply Chain, Protected

UK REACH places the compliance burden on the processor — not the customer. By choosing Armoloy UK, that burden is resolved before a component ever leaves our facility. Your business receives full documentation, a named authorisation reference, and zero supply chain risk.

  • Legal Certainty — Only an authorised processor may legally apply chromium trioxide coatings in Great Britain. Non-authorised coaters operate unlawfully.
  • Named Reference for Your Records — Quote UKREACH/25/04/00 directly in your own REACH supply chain documentation and procurement sign-offs.
  • No Downstream Liability — The finished TDC coating carries no REACH restriction — in the UK, EU, or any international market.
  • 12 Years of Assured Supply — Long-term certainty for OEMs and supply chains — no disruption risk from regulatory challenge for over a decade.

The Coating Carries Zero REACH Liability

Once applied, Armoloy TDC is a pure, stable metallic chromium surface. It does not release hexavalent chromium in service and is not subject to UK REACH, EU REACH, or any equivalent international chemical restriction — in any application, in any market.

This has been confirmed through extensive independent toxicological testing and approved by multiple regulatory bodies across aerospace, defence, nuclear, food, and industrial sectors. For customers, it means coated components move freely through supply chains worldwide — with no downstream REACH liability at any stage.

A Tightening Landscape — Why Authorisation Matters Now

UK REACH — The Legal Position

Since the UK's departure from the EU, UK REACH operates as a distinct domestic regime administered by the HSE and Environment Agency. Chromium trioxide is listed under Annex XIV as a Substance of Very High Concern. Only companies holding a valid Authorisation from the Secretary of State may lawfully use it.

The sunset date has passed — unauthorised processors are non-compliant. Armoloy UK's 12-year authorisation provides the longest available runway of compliance certainty in the industry.

EU REACH — An Evolving Restriction

In the EU, ECHA published a restriction proposal in April 2025 that would move chromium trioxide from controlled authorisation toward outright bans with limited sector exemptions — potentially from 2028 onwards. Businesses relying on EU-based coaters face increasing uncertainty.

Supply chains sourcing from Armoloy UK are insulated from this risk: the coating carries no EU REACH restriction, and our 12-year UK authorisation is unaffected by EU regulatory developments.
