Armoloy TDC food safe coatings offer outstanding corrosion resistance and wear protection, significantly improving the performance and longevity of food processing and packaging equipment — while reducing costly downtime.
The Challenge in Food Processing Environments
Food processing and packaging equipment is consistently exposed to harsh operating conditions: corrosive substances, aggressive cleaning chemicals, high-pressure washdowns, and stringent hygiene requirements. Without proper surface protection, machinery becomes vulnerable to wear, corrosion, and microbial contamination — halting operations and inflating costs.
Armoloy TDC provides the ultimate shield against these challenges. Its hard, smooth, non-porous surface resists wear and friction, facilitates easier cleaning and sterilisation, and keeps equipment hygienic and operational — protecting both your machinery and your product.
Food Contact Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Armoloy TDC is approved for food contact applications by the USDA and considered safe for food contact by the FDA. In addition, Armoloy TDC meets the requirements of EU Regulation No. 1935/2004 on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food — the overarching European framework requiring that food contact materials do not transfer constituents to food in quantities that could endanger human health, cause unacceptable changes in food composition, or cause deterioration in taste or odour.
The coating is chemically inert, non-absorbent, and non-toxic. It does not migrate into food under normal processing conditions, making it a fully compliant and auditable choice for food manufacturers operating under both UK and EU food safety frameworks.
Armoloy TDC is also RoHS compliant and Armoloy UK is certified to ISO 9001:2015, AS9100D, and Nadcap and carries UKREACH authorisation for our chrome plating facility.
Performance Properties
Armoloy TDC makes food-processing equipment last longer and clean up faster. Its unique nodular Thin Dense Chrome surface finish delivers a low coefficient of friction, reducing wear and the frequency of maintenance interventions. This micro-nodular profile also enhances the effectiveness of food-grade lubricants by retaining them at the surface.
The coating can be applied to all grades of stainless steel, eliminating the need for less durable surface treatments where lubricity is required. Its bond to the base metal is absolute — Armoloy TDC will not chip or peel once applied. The coating withstands temperatures in excess of 800°C, and its smooth, continuous surface can be repeatedly cleaned and disinfected without degradation.
Corrosion is reduced and, in most applications, eliminated entirely. Component service life is extended through robust protection against wear, corrosion, and galling — ensuring product purity and operational continuity.
